I created three 5 x7 watercolor and mixed media paintings last night. I think this is the fastest I have every painted- it was so fun! I am still working on the shadow boxes, which are taking some time to complete and have done another test with earth on clay board. I am finding it didn't stick as well as my earlier experiment and the Bioshield glaze is still causing sensitivity.
I am planning for a group show at Infinite Grace Gallery late summer or early fall, will be joining nmcreates website to sell my work and I am having my cd portfolio updated. Recently, I have joined 1,000 facebook artists and the facebook group -artists in New Mexico.
The first artist group meeting at Tribes Coffee House went well.

Wall Glaze
I experimented using wall glaze from Bioshield to adhere sand/earth to metal and it worked! I have been searching for some product that would hold it in place. I love experiments that work! I also mixed the wall glaze with pigment and that worked as well. However, the coating doesn't have the sheen I have hoped.

Ideas and Completion
As I have been collecting roots for new works, some ideas have come to me. I saw a picture of lungs and though how much the veins looked like roots and how interesting it would be to use the roots as the veins and make a more dimensional piece. At first I thought of roots on a white background and then I thought it would be interesting if the roots were painted red. I also had an image of the roots coming out of my feet and being rooted to the earth. I thought about creating this by casting my feet with plaster. We shall see what happens.
I am almost finished with my heart box, containing a hollowed out heart candle filled with mica and wrapped with a root. There is another root above it on various paper. I still need to attach the cord or string to keep the box open and have a few more things to glue on.

Roots
I have been collecting wonderful roots from potted plants of the summer and fall plants, branches and roots as I am working on the concept of our deepest roots of home, heart, self, being uprooted and related.
This year is filled with changes of home and relationship. I am putting my art out in public more formally. It is both exciting and nerve wracking. The best is yet to come.
I invite you to visit my website at www.originalartonline.com . Search for me by last name.
Best Wishes,
Vicki

Eco Concious Art Materials
I am looking at my responsibility as a citizen and an artist within that scope to look at how the materials I use effect the environment. I am in the process of transitioning into the use of non-toxic, earth friendly paints and supplies and invite other artists to step up to this challenge.
Here are some great resources to make the shift accessible: http://www.bioshield.com/ , http://www.ecoartworks.com/ , www.treehollowtoys.com/lystart.html.
Love to hear from anyone who is doing this or interested. Happy 2009!
